Firearms Application Registration System (FARS) Application Procedures for Applicants
Step 1: Visit this website. You MUST enter the site address as follows: www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars
Step 2: Enter Wyckoff Police Department ORI #: NJ0027000
Step 3: Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. When completing the application you will need the email addresses of 2 reputable references. Your references can be family members.
Step 4: You MUST appear at the Wyckoff Police Department (hours 8:30am-4:30pm M-F and Saturday 9:00am-1:00pm) to PAY for your INITIAL FID Card and/or Pistol Purchase Permits. Please bring in your application confirmation page with payment. Your application WILL NOT be processed until you have PAID for your FID Card ($5.00) and/or Pistol Permit(s) ($2.00 per permit). If paying by check or money order please WRITE THE FARS CONFIRMATION # in the memo section. Non-refundable payment is required to be made prior to the completion of the background as per NJAC 13:54-1.4.
*You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this new process.
*Once your application is completed, a station representative will contact you to retrieve your FID Card and/or pistol purchase permit documents.
*Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questions using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desk computer. Please advise them to complete the questions immediately to progress your background investigation.
*The on-line application is applicant driven. Please ensure that you have entered the best phone numbers for yourself and references as well as the best email addresses for yourself and references.
*Entering your social security number on the Mental Health Form will speed the process.
*The applicant MUST enter their “Official Name.”

Please Read Prior to Submitting Your Application
The Wyckoff Police Department Firearms Unit assists residents with the application, processing, and registration of firearms and firearms licenses. The Firearms Unit may be reached at (201) 891-2121 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
The following 6-STEP instructions are the same for the initial and renewal application.
1. APPLICATION FORM:
Complete and submit a State of New Jersey Application for Permit to Carry a Handgun (SP-642) in its entirety and in triplicate (Three original applications). All 3 must be notarized.

Submit four (4) color passport size photographs (1.5-inch x 1.5-inch)
3. CONSENT FORM:
Complete and submit the Consent for Mental Health Records Search Form (SP-066) (DO NOT WRITE IN THE WITNESS AREA. A WPD EMPLOYEE WILL WITNESS THE FORM WHEN YOU DROP YOUR APPLICATION OFF)

You will need to be fingerprinted by IdentoGo. All applicants must be fingerprinted every time they apply for a Concealed Carry Permit. To make an appointment with IdentoGo, you will need a contributor case number and the Wyckoff PD ORI number. These can be obtained at Wyckoff Police Headquarters. Once you obtain the contributor case number and the Wyckoff PD ORI #, click here to make an appointment with IdentoGo.
You will pay IdentoGo directly for this service. The fingerprint results will be sent to the Wyckoff Police Department by IndentoGo. You must submit the receipt received from IndentoGo with your application.
5. PROOF OF OWNERSHIP:
Submit written proof of ownership and qualification with the handgun(s) you intend on carrying.
Proof of ownership can be a purchase receipt or purchase permit or a notarized letter of ownership listing make, model, and serial number of handgun(s).
Written qualification must be within six (6) months of application and must include Instructors Name and Certification Number, make, model, caliber and serial number of handgun(s) you intend to carry.
** THE REQUIRED WRITTEN FIREARMS QUALIFICATION, IN ACCORDANCE WITH N.J.A.C. 13:54-2.4(B), CAN BE OBTAINED AT MOST FIREARM RANGES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. A LIST IS ALSO AVAILABLE HERE
** A NEW JERSEY PERMIT TO CARRY IS VALID FOR TWO (2) YEARS FROM TIME OF APPROVAL.
Submit a money order in the amount of $50.00 payable to State of New Jersey-Treasurer
All the above needs to be submitted together in person at Wyckoff Police Headquarters.
Incomplete applications will not be processed.
If your application is approved by the Wyckoff Chief of Police it is then sent to The Superior Court of Bergen County for approval. If your application is denied by Wyckoff Chief of Police you will be notified in writing and will have thirty days (30) to appeal the denial to the Superior Court of Bergen County.
